Self Portraits

I had seen this sometime back and had wondered. People were joking about this I think. As I was lying down today, thinking about life and self, I got reminded of this. And today I do understand the underlying concept truly. I don’t know if it was Picasso’s concept - pardon me, I have not looked up his thoughts on any of those paintings. I believe that experiences of a person alter his so called image in time. It’s truly with time and experience one realizes that there is no image, no persona - just a mixture of parts and roles and thoughts and experiences one has had. There is no image that can be called as just this one. Entropy increases with time and the concept of self expands to remove the boundaries. There is just a bundle of interesting and strange experiences. So much so one cannot recall how it was to be anything at any given time in life. So his self portrait at 90 does seem correct and plausible. In fact it is the only thing that makes sense: one lifetime of different experiences that could be almost called different lives - none or all of them - that one can relate to.

It is great to be alive.

Kurosawa

Phase 2 of Kurosawa starts. I joined Criterion Collections so that I could watch the ones I could not do - back in 2008-2009 via Netflix (online and on CDs). On my list to begin with:
#straydog
#dersuuzala
#redbeard
#thedrunkenangel
#thebadsleepwell

High and Low was the last one I saw with all the essential ones like Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Ran, Yojimbo, Iriku, Kagemusha, Throne of Blood, The Hidden Fortress, Sanjuro, The Idiot and The Dreams.

Hamilton

Why do you always say what you believe?
Why do you always say what you believe?
Every proclamation guarantees..
Free ammunition for your enemies.

Obsessed with Hamilton and its songs. I am already in love with the characters and the storyline. Good thing that it is also a crash course in American history.

Akira Kurosawa's Dreams

I have always seen these segments from Akira Kurosawa's dreams on youtube only. Sitting and watching the film as such had not interested me when I had first attempted it. The reason is, I always liked few segments over the others. This dream sequence is my favourite. It features art and a happy effort of paying tribute to an artist. The sequence starts with an amazing set depicting The Drawbridge at Arles with a Group of Washerwomen and end with Wheatfield with Crows. Vincent Van Gogh is played by Martin Scorsese and the background is Chopin's Prelude No. 15 in D-flat major.

Michael O'toole: Mediterranean-Gold

The above painting gives a very basic and accurate sensibility of a seaside town set in Mediterranean Europe. It catches our attention with bright colors of the windows and walls - all lit up with the sun that is casting a spotlight on this little street by the sea.
